This Black History Month, more than ever before, serves as a recognition, a celebration, and a call to action. This month serves as a reminder of the ongoing journey toward equity and justice that demands our active engagement. While some would halt the progress, we unequivocally reject that effort, and know that progress is certainly assured with the commitment and work of our whole community. The modern LGBTQ+ rights movement with Black LGBTQ+ Americans, many of them transgender, who stood up for themselves and, in doing so, for all of us. We are once again at a crossroads in American history that dictates the same action and visibility displayed by Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera. We honor those who have paved the way for progress, and look to them as models for how to move forward in achieving social justice
