Florida LGBT Democrats Applaud Jane Castor’s Historic Victory in Tampa

TAMPA FL – The Florida LGBTA Democratic Caucus represents lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Floridians to the Florida Democratic Party (FDP). Tonight, Jane Castor made history when she became the first openly-LGBTQ person to be elected Mayor of Tampa. The state Caucus’ chapter in Tampa, the Hillsborough County LGBTA Democratic Caucus, has been actively involved in Castor’s campaign, along with Caucus members around the state making GOTV calls.
Florida LGBTA Democratic Caucus President Stephen Gaskill issued the following statement on Castor’s historic victory:
“Mayor-Elect Jane Castor showed that LGBTQ candidates and elected officials aren’t just succeeding because of who they are. They’re succeeding because they dedicate their careers to public service, serve their constituents and champion our shared values. This election also shows the organizing power of the Florida LGBTQ community that helped propel her to victory — a significant achievement in an off year election and a sign of what’s to come in 2020.”
